Washington-based painter Tyree Callahan modified a 1937 Underwood Standard typewriter, replacing the letters and keys with color pads and hued labels to create a functional “painting” device called the Chromatic Typewriter. Callahan submitted the beautiful typewriter as part of the 2012 West Prize competition, an annual art prize that’s determined by popular vote

Famous for the 1991 international bestseller Generation X: Tales for an Accelerated Culture, Canadian Douglas Coupland resumed his work in visual arts in 2000, following a 10 year hiatus that coincided with his international literary fame. A recent edition to his body of work is this beautiful ‘digitised’ sculpture of a killer whale that is now a resident of Vancouver’s Convention Centre.
